What's On Our Bookshelf? "Burnout: The Secret To Unlocking The Stress Cycle" by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski

This month, not one but TWO of our amazing THG employees recommended a book that needs a place on your bookshelf.

Amy Egbert, Admin Manager at The Healing Group, and Lindsay Lindeman, CSW Intern, have recommended Burnout: The Secret To Unlocking The Stress Cycle by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski.

This book addresses the all-too-common feeling of being burned out, stressed out, and completely tapped out. The Nagoski sisters describe this as “Human Giver Syndrome”, a feeling that many women experience as they strive to be endlessly “pretty, happy, calm, generous, and attentive to the needs of others.”

To combat this experience, the authors use practical, research-backed strategies to help you “metabolize” stress and move it through your body instead of just endlessly trying to cope in survival mode. The engaging and funny writing style makes it easy to understand and as Amy says, “feeling like [Nagoski} might be your new secret best friend, even though she doesn’t know it yet.”

Amy’s favorite quote: “Teach your nervous system that it’s not helpless…When you feel trapped, free yourself from anything, and it will teach your body that you are not helpless.”

Lindsay’s favorite quote: “Wellness is not a state of being but a state of action. It is the freedom to move fluidly through the cyclical, oscillating experiences of being human.”

If you find yourself struggling with feelings of burnout and overwhelm, the therapists at The Healing Group are trained to provide you with support and tools to help you feel better. Call or text our Client Care Coordinator at 801-305-3171 to schedule an appointment.
